World Teachers' Day

Celebrated every year on 5 October since 1994, World Teachers' Day celebrates the anniversary of the signing of the 1966 ILO / UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. The 1966 Recommendation is the principal frame of reference on the rights and responsibilities of teachers on a global scale.

This year, the celebration of World Teachers' Day will also mark the 20th anniversary of the 1997 UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel, with particular emphasis on the institutional autonomy and academic freedom in line with the 2017 slogan «Teaching in Liberty, Empowering Teachers».
